Binance Executive Detained in Nigeria
The mother of Tan Gambaran, a Binance executive detained in Nigeria since February, has been calling on the U.S. government to end her son’s detention. The 75-year-old claims he has been wrongfully detained and continues to advocate for his release, emphasizing his deteriorating health. “He’s not a criminal. He’s detained wrongfully,” she asserts.
Bitcoin Theft: Federal Agents Arrest Two Men
Federal agents in the U.S. have also arrested two men for stealing $230 million worth of Bitcoin from an individual believed to be a creditor for Genesis. These two suspects allegedly used online aliases and other sophisticated methods to access the victim’s accounts, transfer funds, and launder the money.
Sam Bankman-Fried’s Legal Battle Continues
This week also saw a long-anticipated update regarding former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF). His lawyers filed a 102-page brief claiming that the former FTX CEO was never presumed innocent. They have since filed an appeal for his conviction on seven felony counts and his 25-year prison sentence.
SEC Approves NASDAQ to List BlackRock’s Spot Bitcoin ETF
In other news, the SEC has given NASDAQ the green light to list and trade shares of options for BlackRock’s Spot Bitcoin ETF. Yay!
